WASH Baseline Survey

Aquaquest conducted a WASH Baseline study for UNICEF. The main objective of the study was to provide baseline information to establish the current status and coverage of WASH services in the six target districts of Luapula Province (i.e. Chiengi, Chifunabuli, Kawambwa, Lunga, Mwansabombwe and Mwense).

The work consisted of a household survey, water point inventory, WASH-assessments at health centres and schools, and various stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions.

In total, 2,874 households in 47 villages were sampled, selected through a systematic random sampling method with calculated sampling intervals. Furthermore, 57 schools, 27 health centers were sampled, 47 water surveys and 45 sanitation surveys were carried out, and 180 hand pump water points and sanitation facilities were assessed in the areas where the above household surveys were conducted. The Baseline Study report presents the key findings of the baseline study, which was undertaken during October and November 2020.
